Join us with your kids for a creative and fun Art Workshops on Sunday morning at Good Company Bookstore!

Our workshop arises as an extension of the reading sessions that take place on Saturday mornings at&nbsp;Good Company Bookstore.&nbsp;The objective is to give body to the inner world of each participant, whether from the stories heard the previous week or from the need to transpose their own fantasies into shapes, colors, and textures.

Hidden among drawing sheets and cardboard boxes, could there be animals never before cataloged?

This workshop invites you to create low-relief animal sculptures by repurposing paper and cardboard. Following the logic of a construction game, participants use a set of templates and base shapes to combine and layer pieces, exploring endless variations of volume and composition. Once the final form is reached, the pieces are glued together and brought to life with a painted finish.

The event has a cost of 7 euros (+tax). We ask that you make the reservation in advance so we can prepare enough materials for all the little artists. Please select how many adults will accompany. If you cannot attend, we ask that you cancel your ticket so that others can join.

Each session is unique and offers a structured script, designed to guide each child in the exploration of the contours of their imagination. We are going to discover different themes, techniques, and supports in each encounter. Here, we demystify the idea of "not having a knack" or "I can't" and we celebrate experimentation as an essential part of the process.

Nothing special, just bring your curiosity! We provide all the necessary materials to materialize ideas into physical creations.

This workshop is for all children who want to expand their creative horizons through art. So that they feel safe and integrated, parents and caregivers are welcome to accompany the sessions.

The project is open to suggestions! Our hostess, Margarida, will be attentive to the tastes and proposals of each child, in order to shape her offer to our little artists.

Whether you're a poet, a poetry lover, or simply curious, this is an opportunity to share words, listen, and connect with fellow literary enthusiasts.&nbsp;

Open Mic Poetry

Join us at Good Company Books for the opening of the exhibition of PIO Kaliński’s linocuts!

The project serves as an illustration for the book Heteronimy - utwory wybrane, edited by Wojciech Charchalis, which was published by LOKATOR in 2021 in Polish.&nbsp;

Many of the characters featured and described in this project are heteronyms invented by Pessoa in his early youth, if not in his childhood. The vast majority of them did not write much, but this is irrelevant, for whilst the megalomaniacal myth of the monstrously prolific poet may crumble, the truth remains of a brilliant poet whose three heteronyms created a humungous body of work.

All prints are 9x13 cm in size.&nbsp;

PIO Kaliński – artist, graphic designer, publisher, graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. Founder of the LOKATOR publishing house. Art Exhibition: PESSOA - HETERONYMS with PIO Kaliński

Join us for an interactive and fun reading for your kids on Saturday morning!

Our Saturday morning session features carefully chosen books, read aloud in an engaging and interactive way. Expect a warm and welcoming atmosphere where little listeners can explore stories, discover new characters, and spark their love for reading.

The evening will begin with a conversation with the author, on the depths of friendship, entering adulthood and embracing change, moderated by Angelique Neuman, editor, poet and the host of&nbsp;Open Mic Poetry&nbsp;at Good Company Bookstore, followed by q&amp;a and book signing.&nbsp;

About&nbsp;Strange Girls:&nbsp;

A decade has passed since Ava spoke to Aliya. During the years of silence, Ava’s life has remained at a standstill, while Aliya got the one thing they both wanted more than anything: a book deal. Forced back together at a mutual friend’s bachelorette in London, Ava returns to Aliya’s doorstep, desperate to unpack the truth of their shared history—and what they meant to each other.

When the two first met in the halls of their historic campus, their connection was electric. Aliya and Ava created a world of their own through the stories they wrote, influencing and borrowing from each other’s work. Her third novel&nbsp;The Giant Dark&nbsp;(Dialogue Books, Hachette UK) won the Mo Siewcharran Prize, and was shortlisted for the RSL Encore Award. She lives in London.

Book Launch: Strange Girls by Sarvat Hasin

Event hosted in a bilingual format - English &amp; Portuguese

Rui Paiva was born in Mozambique, where he spent the first twenty years of his life; he grew up in Macau and Portugal, and, shaped by all these cultures, recounted his life story in the book <a href="https://goodcompanybooks.com/pt/shop/product/nuvem-branca/55418062504317">Nuvem Branca</a>, published in 2017.

Book written in a bilingual format - English and Portuguese.

In this book, the author presents his early works (texts and drawings), beginning with his childhood and adolescence, and explores his journey as an artist throughout his life.

This evening will be devoted to the first part of Rui’s life, spent in Mozambique. The captivating stories told by the artist will be accompanied by books, diaries, sketches and any other forms of artistic expression that offer a glimpse into the artist’s rich and fascinating life.

What can you expect from this event?

The evening will begin with Rui sharing his stories about the time he lived and grew up in Mozambique, drawing on books, authors, poets, music and magazines from that era as points of reference.

In the second part of the evening, we’d like to invite you to share your own stories, references and reflections relating to Mozambique. We’d like to create a space for creativity and connection to explore this magical theme of the evening — between life and art.

The evening will start with a talk with philosopher and musician Bartholomew Ryan&nbsp;and Richard Zenith, translator and literary critic moderated by Melaina Barnes, writer and editor. We invite you to join our lively discussion, ask questions and debate!&nbsp;

Bartholomew Ryan is a philosopher, musician and researcher based at IFILNOVA, NOVA University of Lisbon. His books include&nbsp;Kierkegaard’s Indirect Politics: Interludes with Lukács, Schmitt, Benjamin and Adorno&nbsp;(2014) and the co-edited&nbsp;Fernando Pessoa and Philosophy: Countless Lives Inhabit Us&nbsp;(2021). In music, he leads the dream-folk band&nbsp;The Loafing Heroes, so far releasing six albums; and he also released a solo album called ‘Jabuti’ (2022) under the name&nbsp;Loafing Hero.

During the roundtable, he will present his newest book&nbsp;Critical Lives: Fernando Pessoa&nbsp;(2024).&nbsp;As a young man, Fernando Pessoa wrote “be plural like the universe.” Staying true to this, he went on to invent more than one hundred fictional alter-egos, which he called heteronyms. Bartholomew Ryan's philosophical biography, probing Pessoa’s experience and imagination of reality, navigates the poet’s early days in Lisbon and South Africa, reveals a philosopher-poet and pioneer of Portuguese modernism, and delves into the birth of Pessoa’s heteronymic universe.&nbsp;

Ryan traverses Pessoa’s writings on evolving radical politics and his messianic dream of an empire of poets, his ventures into esoteric realms and his expertise in astrology. The book unravels Pessoa’s real and imaginary relationships, and explores his unfinished prose masterpiece,&nbsp;The Book of Disquiet. This is a compelling, timely exploration of Pessoa’s profound and innovative ideas, including his revolutionary concepts of reality, identity and self-multiplicity.&nbsp;

Richard Zenith&nbsp;is an acclaimed translator and literary critic. His translations include Pessoa's&nbsp;The Book of Disquiet&nbsp;and&nbsp;Fernando Pessoa and Co.: Selected Poems, which won the PEN Award for Poetry in Translation. The recipient of Portugal's Pessoa Prize, Zenith lives in Lisbon.

Richard Zenith's&nbsp;Pessoa&nbsp;at last allows us to understand this extraordinary figure. Some eighty-five years after his premature death in Lisbon, where he left over 25,000 manuscript sheets in a wooden trunk, Fernando Pessoa (1888-1935) can now be celebrated as one of the great modern poets. Setting the story of his life against the nationalistic currents of European history, Zenith charts the heights of Pessoa's explosive imagination and literary genius.

Much of Pessoa's charm and strangeness came from his writing under a variety of names that he used to write in wildly varied styles with different imagined personalities. Zenith traces the back stories of virtually all of these invented others, called 'heteronyms', demonstrating how they were projections, spin-offs or metamorphoses of Pessoa himself. Zenith's monumental work confirms the power of Pessoa's words to speak prophetically to the disconnectedness of modern life.

The Exhibition&nbsp;"Onde a Terra acaba e o Corpo começa"

The body - our body - is the outline of our actions. When we look at it we're aliens, lost in the stratosphere on their way home. Where can we find the arms with which we hold? What hand do we extend to somebody else's reach? With which feet do we dance at the dawn of april and which voice do we borrow to the heritage we decided to leave to those who follow? If thought goes quiet and the body speaks, what secrets will it tell of our own survival?

19:00 – Exhibit opens. Order a drink, mingle, and take in the artwork.

With a degree in Cinema, Beatriz defines herself as a multidisciplinary artist. With a regular practice of dance and performative modes of expression, she specialized in directing, and operates in movie productions and cultural gatherings. Her photographical routine developed since early age in an independent way, focusing on documental and performative archives. The world around her, the mirror she aims to lift raw.
