Choosing Love in Lisbon: Healing Our City Through bell hooks' Vision

February 10, 202619:00

Event hosted in English

This timely and honest conversation will explore how love, as a deliberate practice, can help heal Lisbon’s present challenges within and across the indigenous and immigrant communities that make Lisbon such a magical place.

We’ll discuss real issues - identity, class, inclusion, race, and equity - while celebrating what Lisbon already gets right.

Together, we’ll ask: How can love shape both our challenges and our shared future in Lisbon?

What to expect from this event

Guided by our host Toby Thompkins, we will try together to answer  meaningful questions such as How can we practice love as a community to dismantle economic, cultural and racial disparities for everyone and ensure that all who call Lisbon home feel a sense of belonging and safety?

How do we confront present day false narratives about community, belonging, and entitlement that divide us with actions rooted in truth and love, so that indigenous and immigrant residents feel seen, valued, and empowered as full participants in Lisbon’s future?

Imagining a Lisbon anchored in love—what does your ideal future look like, how do you behave differently  within it, and how can each of us contribute to creating that Lisbon where everyone thrives, feels safe and can realize their full potential?

What do you need to bring?

A curious and open mind will be more than enough! Although we encourage you to bring something to take notes as the discussion will definitely be the one to remember! You can also bring your copy of “All about love” or purchase the book here before the event.
