Heroism & Vulnerability: The Male Nude In Art Talk

June 23, 202618:30

Join us for a witty and surprising journey through art history exploring male nude in art hosted by Jeanne Couaillier!

Event hosted in English

We’re used to naked women in paintings. But naked men? That’s a much stranger story.

2,500 years ago, showing off your sculpted half-naked body was peak masculine prestige. Then things changed. A lot.

So what happened between Greek heroes, suffering saints, idealised warriors, awkward aristocrats, and modern men trying to reinvent masculinity?

Join us at The Good Company Bookstore on June 23rd, 6:30 pm, for a witty and surprising journey through art history exploring how ideals of masculinity have been shaped — and reshaped — by religion, politics, science, power, desire and social expectations.

Because the male body in art has never just been about bodies.

Expect myths, scandals, power struggles, vulnerability, a little sensuality, and plenty of unexpected stories along the way.

A perfect Pride month conversation about masculinity: who defines it, who performs it, and what happens when those definitions begin to crack.

Host: I’m Jeanne, an international art teacher, designer, and art historian. I’ve lived in eight countries, and I love sharing creative ideas and inspirations in a warm, accessible way.
