November 21, 202619:00

Event hosted in English

Join us for a screening of four short films of different genres by Iranian women directors, followed by an online talk with directors Azadeh Navai and Fatima Nofely. You’ll have the chance to ask the filmmakers questions, discuss the films together, and learn more about Iranian cinema and its place in the wider international context.

About the Directors

Azadeh Navai is an Iranian independent writer and director. Her films have screened internationally, including at BFI London, the International Film Festival Rotterdam, the Edinburgh International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival. Her feature debut screenplay, Sheepish, was recently selected for the Cine Qua Non Lab’s Storylines programme and was a semi-finalist in the Atlanta Film Festival competition. Her projects have been funded and supported by The New Yorker, the arthouse streaming platform Fandor, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

Fatima Nofely began her directing career in 2017 with the short film Impersonation, about women being forbidden to go to football stadiums in Iran. In 2019, her short film Wallet won the international grand prize at the 15th Mobile Film Festival in Paris. In 2020, she directed her first documentary, Derby in Tajrish. Her short film Hamster, a French-Iranian co-production, was featured in The New Yorker.
