Join the Curious Monkey Film Club for an evening of cinematic charm!
For this Pride Month screening, we are briefly pausing our exploration of 1930s cinema to present Suddenly, Last Summer (1959), Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s haunting adaptation of the Tennessee Williams play. Set between memory, trauma, and secrecy, the film follows Elizabeth Taylor's character as she is pressured to conceal the truth surrounding the mysterious death of a close relative during the previous summer.
This screening highlights a key moment in Hollywood filmmaking, when queer themes could rarely be addressed openly and instead emerged through suggestion, coded dialogue, and psychological tension.
Whether you're revisiting this timeless gem or watching it for the first time, you're in for a treat.
