Join us for this incredible evening of jazz, improvisation and wine in Good Company!
Saxophonist Brian Blaker will join with bassist Zé Pedro Jorge and drummer/vocalist João Ribeiro in a trio format for an evening of music that celebrates the jazz tradition of exploring standard repertoire, often referred to as "standards."
Standards serve as a foundation for the musicians to interact and explore as they improvise over a shared understanding of the melody and harmony of a given tune. This allows the musicians to breathe a unique life into each performance, no matter how familiar the song is or unfamiliar a fellow musician may be.
Brian Blaker, who originally hails from Los Angeles, started off with a love of punk rock. His musical path shifted after discovering John Coltrane's A Love Supreme at the age of fourteen. After the completion of his studies, he became active in Philadelphia's music scene, performing with the Philadelphia funk band Swift Technique and guesting with Vulfpeck, Big Sam's Funky Nation, and many more.
Based in Portugal since 2018, he's currently active in projects with the independent music label Jazzego.
