Join us for an exciting evening with Francisco Teles da Gama presenting his new book "O Oeste Hipster"!
The launch of the book O Oeste Hipster (The Hipster West) will feature a conversation between the author and art historian and curator Francisca Gigante.
Four writers were invited to choose and read short stories from this work, which stand out for their themes of History, Art, Mythology, Tennis and Cinema. We will be joined by award-winning author Nelson Nunes, poets Zé Bernardo da Fonseca and Pedro Brum da Silveira, and professor and curator Tomás Agostinho. The microphone will be available for anyone who wants to read one of the narratives from this intrepid Hipster West. The moment will be even more special because we will witness the first step of FITA Press, the new publishing house of the cultural institution FITA - Friends In The Arts, where everyone has a literary home.
About the book
The author travels through the intricacies of the old Hipster West, between the alleys of independent and craft beer. On his travels through Japan, Denmark, England, and Italy, he gains a new identity, makes friends, and discovers artefacts and creatures that could change the course of History. In these real or imaginary adventures, there is no time or space, everything is possible, you just need to have a chronological map at hand. Along the way, he encounters knights hungry for banquets, uninspired journalists, irreverent artists, and archaeologists of unparalleled fame. As he transforms into a new and mythological being, magical realism merges with the mundane. Now that his destiny is set, the narrator seems doomed to forever wear thick glasses, an unshaven beard, and an old-fashioned typewriter. If your pen is sharp, your horse is saddled, and your eyes reflect the echo of challenge, you can gallop off towards the intrepid Hipster West, but remember: the threat of envy and plagiarism lurks around every corner. We are all lost in this place of ancient legends, where underground culture flourishes.
